Color on Cloth Workshop: Printing & Painting with Natural Dyes
Discover the magic of natural color in this hands-on workshop led by professional textile artist Grey Lux. Using plant- and mineral-based dyes such as madder, weld, logwood, and indigo, you’ll learn how to paint, stamp, and print directly onto fabric to create one-of-a-kind designs.
Shaping Blue: Indigo Resist Workshop
Step into the world of indigo and discover the beauty of resist dyeing. In this hands-on, beginner-friendly workshop, you’ll explore simple techniques of folding, binding, clamping, and stitching to create striking patterns on cloth. Using a prepared natural indigo vat, we’ll dip our fabrics and watch as they emerge in shades of luminous blue.
Shadows & Contrast: Exploring Tannins and Iron on Cloth
Experience the alchemy of cloth transformation. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll discover how plant-based tannins and iron mordants interact to create striking shades of grey, charcoal, and black. With brushes, sponges, and stamps, you’ll design bold patterns and subtle washes as the magic of oxidation unfolds before your eyes.
Sashiko for Stillness: Japanese Hand-Stitching
Sashiko is a centuries-old Japanese stitching practice rooted in repair, resilience, and the quiet beauty of repeated lines. In this hands-on workshop, we’ll explore the foundations of Sashiko — from marking simple geometric patterns to learning the traditional running-stitch technique that moves rhythmically through cloth.
Using natural fabrics and high-quality Sashiko threads, you’ll create a small stitched sampler or begin a visible-mending piece that reflects both tradition and your own hand. No sewing experience is needed — just a willingness to slow down, breathe, and enjoy the meditative nature of needle and thread.
