Printed by Hand: Introduction to Linoleum Printing

A hands-on exploration of relief printing using linoleum and natural imagery.

In this workshop, we’ll slow down and work with the fundamentals of linoleum block printing — carving simple imagery, inking by hand, and printing on paper and cloth. This class is designed for beginners and anyone curious about printmaking as a tactile, repeatable process rooted in patience and intention.

We’ll begin by transferring a simple design onto linoleum, focusing on bold lines and negative space. You’ll learn how to safely carve your block using basic tools, then move into inking and hand-printing using a brayer. Each print will be pulled by hand, allowing small variations and textures to emerge.

All materials are provided, and no prior printmaking experience is necessary. This workshop emphasizes process over perfection, offering space to experiment, make multiple impressions, and learn through repetition.

This workshop is open to beginners and experienced makers alike. It’s well suited for artists, textile lovers, and anyone interested in working with pattern, repetition, and surface design. No drawing or printmaking experience is required.
