A special commission for a Taino friend expecting a new baby, I dyed this 100@ Cotton Muslin baby blanket using Golden Marguerite(grown and harvested at our own Breuwen garden), Logwood, Onion skins, and garlic skins.
The fabric was pretreated using Gallnut tannin and Aluminum mordant before dyeing to achieve maximum color and light fastness. It was then bundle dyed using solar energy for several days, creating a unique One of a kind pattern. I love Eco Dyeing because it’s a passive way of coloring a textile. After the tannin and mordant process, the sun and water do the majority of the work.
This is my 2nd commission of baby blankets for this friend, and it’s an honor to create pieces that two of her little ones will treasure for their lives and possibly pass down to their children. Arikomabu, Itu.
