Morning Sashiko before heading out for the day. This pattern is a Kurguri Jujizashi - woven 10 cross stitch. Kurguri means ‘go through’ and Jujizashi is the 10 cross stitch. Jujizashi, with the number 10, is also representative of a wish for wealth or prosperity.
It’s a Hitomezashi stitch pattern. These are made up of small straight lined stitches that build the pattern up in layers. These are good patterns for reinforcing fabrics- areas like knees and elbows on clothing.
I’ve used a cotton fabric that I’ve dyed using Cochineal exhaust bath and Iron overdye on one side, and Madder exhaust bath and Iron overdye on the other.
I’m sewing using a rainbow variegated thread for one direction of the foundation, and a purple variegated thread for the cross section on this. Ro complete the weave on the diagonals, I used an Indio dyed thread from Buaisou (artisan dye house in Tokushima Japan).
