Japan - Osaka - JunAle Sashiko Workshop

Amazing Sashiko workshop at the studio of JunAle. The studio is in a beautiful building with a soaring ceiling. The experience was a small group, 2 other people and myself, which was wonderful and intimate.

The pattern we executed was Yamagata - Mountain form. I had not sewn this pattern, and the instruction they provided was simple to follow and broke each step down to easy segments.

After we finished, we spent some time looking at Jun’s sashiko work. He creates beautiful pieces made from caps and sneakers, layered with stitching and color. The yarns are all dyed in house, and we were able to meet their staff dye master. Of course the dye master and I immediately gravitated to each other, and although they spoke little English and my Japanese is limited, we qucikly became friends over color and natural dyeing.

I found this workshop to be inspirational for my Sashiko work. I really enjoyed the studio and felt at home.
