Darling Swatches,
For our October 19th lab, we are going to continue working with Tannin and Mordant for Cellulose Fibers.
At our September meeting we discussed and worked with Gallnut and Cutch tannins. A batch of work was prepared and is now ready to mordant.
Notes/Requests below, see you soon!
If you missed the last session, you can catch up with us at this session.
If you would like to work on your own pieces, please (at minimum) scour them before the lab.
If you need to scour pieces during lab, you are welcomed to but you will have to do it the hard way; with a pot and a spoon.
You can tannin during the October lab, there will be available vats to use.
If you know how to, you can Tannin your scoured cellulose textile ahead of time and be ready to mordant.
Our space can currently accommodate 6 guests. Please RSVP so I can plan accordingly.
I will have some pre-scoured linen and cotton available for purchase.
Bring an apron and clean reusable rubber gloves (if you have them).

Making is often easier in community.
At Breuwen, we believe traditional craft knowledge becomes most meaningful when it is shared, practiced, and passed between people.
Community Studio Sessions are an invitation to gather at the studio and participate in the living traditions of making. These affordable, recurring studio gatherings offer dedicated time to explore techniques such as natural dyeing, shibori, sashiko, mending, weaving, and other textile arts while working alongside a community of fellow makers.
Unlike a formal workshop, these sessions are designed as ongoing creative practice. Bring your own materials, work at your own pace, learn through observation and conversation, and become part of a growing circle of people interested in slowing down, creating by hand, and deepening their relationship with craft.
Whether you join once or return month after month, our goal is simple: to create a welcoming space where skills are shared, creativity is nurtured, and community is built through making.
Come make, learn, experiment, and be part of a growing community of slow makers.

We are all Swatches!
A fabric swatch is used as a representation of the color, texture, and pattern for a textile.
We express so much of our personalities and histories in our artwork, which is what creates our individual and unique styles.
Whether you are a colorful swatch or a muted tone swatch, you are one of the most important parts to the creative process.
