四つ日の出絞り
This shibori is an adapted form of a technique called "Hinode Shibori". ‘Honode’ (日の出) means "sunrise", and ‘Yotsu’ (四つ) means "4". Making this Shibori name’s meaning "four sunrises".
My first exploration of this pattern was on a silk scarf that I then dyed twice. The first time I dyed using Cochineal, and then after opening the stitching I did another lighter overdye using Logwood.
I recently applied this shibori onto a piece of cotton that I ecodyed using Logwood and Golden Marguerite (dyers chamomile). I have been growing golden marguerites in my. garden for 4 years, and the flowers create a beautiful bright yellow that pairs so well with the purple of logwood. I applied the shibori to this piece, and then dipped it into Indigo to overdye. The Indigo mixed with the yellow to create a beautiful green color- very rich and earthy.
