Workshop: Indigo Dip Day

  • Shepard's Garden and Arts Center 3330 McKinley Boulevard Sacramento, CA, 95816 United States (map)

Hosted by the Sacramento Collective for the Textile Arts (SCTA), Indigo Dip day is a community focused event offering two Indigo Dye workshops.

This year, Grey will be teaching a 120 Minute workshop focused on Mokume Shibori.

Learn how to create shibori accents on a decorative pillow using several Shibori techniques.

  • Simple stitched resist (Ori-Nui) for undulating waves and texture

  • Circle stitched resist (Karamatsu) for radiating circles

  • Parallel rows of stitched resist (Mokume) to create wood grain patterns

Using a bandana the can be worn or used as Furoshiki (Japanese wrapping cloth), we will plan, draw, and sew unique patterns using lines and circles. Once the sewing is completed, you will head over to the dye area to dip your piece in Indigo.

In Addition to Grey’s workshop, Sacramento artist LuAnne Hansen will be teaching a 60 minute workshop focused on Itajime Shibori, which utilizes clamping and folding of textiles to create geometric resist patterns.

The artists have volunteered their time for the event, so it is a wonderful opportunity to take 2 Indigo workshops in one day for a very reasonable donation.
